He regrets not being able to do more to keep his adoptive father from being possessed and killed, and he fears not being strong enough to protect Rin now. Add on his feelings that despite all he's done to become more than the crybaby he once was, he still feels like he can't catch up to his twin. There's also the doubt from being told from two different people that his way of keeping his feelings locked up is basically setting him up on the road for becoming a demon on accident.
